Two Broadway stars - one native to Black Mountain - will appear in their original musical cabaret "A Broadway Romance" on Saturday, March 17 in the Charles D. Owen High School auditorium.

The 7:30 p.m. show by Black Mountain Center for the Arts stars Black Mountain native and Broadway veteran, Kevin Massey, and his wife, Kara Lindsay, star of Broadway’s "Newsies," "Wicked" and "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical."

"A Broadway Romance" stages the story of Lindsay and Massey met and how their relationship began onstage. Lindsay and Massey have performed around the world, on Broadway and in films. Fate, a TV musical and a fair amount of Broadway magic brought this New York girl and Black Mountain boy together.

In addition to her Broadway work, Lindsay’s major credits include originating the role of Laura Ingalls Wilder in "Little House on the Prairie, the Musical," Mary Poppins in "Mary Poppins," the title role in "Cinderella" and Sally Bowles in "Cabaret."

Massey, born and raised in Black Mountain and a graduate of Owen High, began his stage career in 2001 in New York and Europe.  His numerous Broadway credits include the Deaf West production of "Big River," Disney’s "Tarzan," "Memphis" and "A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder."

“It is always a joy to come back to where my soul feels at home," Massey said, "and (to) share with my hometown how proud I am to be from this area, and how much they have influenced me on this crazy journey to the big city and beyond. I also cannot wait to talk about my favorite resume credit: husband to Kara Lindsay.”

Tickets are $25 before March 17, and $30 the day of the show, based on availability.  Tickets may be purchased by calling 669-0930 or by visiting blackmountainarts.org.
